Sunshine Craft Project by April McNair (A Modern Teacher Blog)

When I saw Schoolgirl Style’s Garden Theme I started reminiscing…and what kept coming to my mind was the sun shining on my face. In the brightness of the sun I feel alive (ok….not the 105 degree sun we are having here in Texas-already?… really?..but you know what I mean).  So, immediately I knew exactly what I wanted to share with you today.  I saw this fun ceiling decoration from plastic tablecovers on pinterest and that got me thinking…so…

1. Take a 84×108 yellow plastic tablecover and cut it half.  You will have long strips of about 20 inches in width.
2. Bunch the strip and fold it in half. Right at about the halfway point, staple the middle of the strip to the wall.  Don’t worry about making it too perfect because the middle will be covered.

3. Work your way out and staple the ends to the wall, stapling inside the tablecloth so you don’t see the staple.
4. Continue to staple the strips to the wall…making the suns’ rays.

5. Take another tablecloth and cut it in half.

6. Gather the ends to make a pouf ball.  The inside is empty so take the other half of the tablecloth and fill in the pouf ball. Secure the ends with a ziptie.

7. Staple the pouf ball to the middle of the sun, careful to staple underneath the tablecloth where you can’t see the staples

8. Add this free printable to the middle of the sun and attach a picture of each student on the rays of the sun.

I think this would be a great addition to your classroom and Schoolgirl Style’s Garden Theme.

You could do a few things with this….

* Students could write appreciations ‘glows’ to eachother and add them to the sun rays.

* You could highlight a student of the week in the middle.

* You could highlight class goals and add them to the rays. ‘We get brighter everyday’.

* You could add any class compliments to the rays.
