This is a very different classroom tour today! We are visiting three classrooms…all belong to Life Skills teacher, Allison Travis. Can you imagine having to decorate THREE classrooms?!? Allison teaches a special needs program for students with significant cognitive disabilities. She works on academics, but also independent living skills, daily living activities, and social skills. Her district has given her three classrooms to develop the ideas she has for this educational program.
The Main Classroom
This is Allison’s main classroom. She spends the majority of her student’s academic time in this room. I love how she chose soothing blues and greens to decorate this space.
Take a look…
I am so impressed with the overall concept of this program! You can see Allison’s love and dedication to her student’s by the three spaces she created for them. Each room is an attractive, organized space that is conducive to teaching and learning.
Well done, Allison!

You have a gift. Beautiful!
Love these spaces! And what a calling, Allison! How wonderful to prepare these students for real life!! Such a gift! Thanks for sharing, Melanie!!
Would love to decorate my classroom like this! Did these items come from one particular theme or is it more of a mix and match?
Definitely a mix and match! Several items came from Melanie’s store and the rest is a mix of Dollar Tree, Target and Container Store
Thank you so much for the feature! I am so honored to be on your website! I love everything you do. Thank you Laura for your kind words! I am truly blessed to be working with the students that I work with and love the school I teach at!
Wow! I love the rooms and the concepts. I wish I could see those Velcro schedules/tasks – they sound like a great idea for lots of us!

sorry about the typo – it’s http://www.smarterbalancedteacher.com
Would love to share that with you! Do you have access to Boardmaker? If not, I can save the files as a pdf but they would not be editable.
I don’t even know what boardmaker is, so I guess I don’t have access. A PDF would be fine- I can always use a snipping tool and publisher to edit.
Thanks,
Brooke
Allison, what wonderful classrooms! Please email me if you have a chance ttruj001@fiu.edu. I am an ESE teacher looking to teach a life skills program and would love to pick your brain!
